Active Covid cases fall below 2,000 in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: The number of active Covid-19 cases dropped below 2,000-mark almost after a month in Puducherry.

The territory reported 149 fresh cases even as 661 patients recovered in the last 24 hours ending at 10am on Friday bringing down the active cases to 1,993. A 52-year-old man from Puducherry died of the infection taking the death toll to 1,957.

The positivity rate of the samples (2,379) tested on Friday stood at 6. 3%, which is more than the national average of 3. 9%.

Healthcare authorities have so far tested 21. 87 lakh swab samples of which 18. 32 lakh samples returned negative. They have so far administered 15. 52 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine.

They have so far administered the first dose to 9. 25 lakh people, the second dose to 6. 15 lakh people and the precaution dose to 10,610. They hav e administered the first dose to 268 people, the second dose to 688 p eople and the precaution dose to 320 in the last 24 hours.
