Action man David is raising funds in memory of tragic pal Jock McKelvie

David Telfer, 55, joined the Army Tuition Assistance Programme with Jock McKelvie who tragically died in a horror crash at an army training base earlier this year.

And now after winning a military modified Kawasaki motorcycle in a raffle to David has decided to use the bike to help struggling veterans.

And Sunday, May 12 marks the 100 year anniversary of Combat Stress.

The former tour bus driver has decided to raise money for the charity, which is based at Hollybush house.

He told the Post: “I thought rather than sell the bike and make myself some money I’ll use it for what it was intended, charity purposes, to help people that need our help.

“Hollybush house is just five minutes away from me so it was the ideal one.

“From October to December last year I had a Facebook raising page.

“I went to the Remembrance Day parade and took part with my tin, and then Morrisons had a thing where Combat Stress were selling Christmas cards. From those three events I raised £491.

“People like Combat Stress are doing enormous work to help our ex-veterans and I think they should get all the support that they can.”

Founded shortly after the First World War, Combat Stress aims to help veterans struggling with mental health problems lead fulfilling lives.

Hollybush house will be hosting its annual fund-raising fete on Saturday ,June 15.

And David plans to take his bike in the hope he can use it to make money.

He said: “What I’m trying to do is if people want a photo with the bike then put whatever you want in the tin. From 20p to £20, every penny helps. That money might allow a veteran a week in the house and help someone’s rehabilitation.

“Post-traumatic Stress Disorder is a huge deal, it was never recognised until a few years ago.

“These guys have put their lives on the line for us so anything we can do to help them just seems natural.”
