ACT venues to share in funding for live music

Three venues across the ACT will receive federal government funding, in a move to bring back more live Australian music to communities.

Canberra's Gang Gang Café and Bar, Transit Bar and the University of Canberra' Refectory and Hub will share $106,000, part of round three of the Live Music Australia program.

Senator for the ACT Zed Seselja said in a statement the funding will allow for "the installation and upgrade of audio and visual technology."

"This critical funding will see a new AV system installed at the Gang Gang Café and Bar, upgrades of sound and lighting equipment at Transit Bar and a new audio package for the University of Canberra' Refectory and Hub."

"These projects will help increase the capacity to facilitate live music in Canberra as we look to bounce back from the economic impacts of COVID-19," Senator Seselja said.

"This funding will help the live music sector to re-emerge as Australians continue to get vaccinated and COVID-19 restrictions ease, allowing venues to begin to reopen and rebuild," Minister for Cities and the Arts Paul Fletcher said in the statement.

"It is important that our live music sector will be primed to host performances and gigs when permitted to do so, and by supporting these local venues now, we are increasing opportunities to see Australian artists get back on stage."

Applications for round four of the program will open later this year, with funding to support venues from mid-2022 as they re-establish regular programming of original live Australian music.
