ACT reports 28 new cases of COVID-19

Twenty-eight new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the ACT in the 24 hours to 8pm Wednesday.

There were 21 Canberrans in ACT hospitals to 8pm on Wednesday night, including 10 in intensive care. Eight people were receiving ventilation.

This brings the total number of cases for this outbreak to 1540. There were 425 active cases on Thursday, down from 446 active cases on Wednesday.

There were 2048 negative tests in the 24-hour reporting period to 9am on Thursday.

Of Canberrans aged 12 and above, 83.1 per cent have been fully vaccinated.

Vaccine mandates for targeted workforces

The ACT government on Wednesday announced a vaccine mandate for disability support workers and in-home and community aged care workers.

Workers in these sectors will be required to have had their first vaccine dose by November 1 and be fully vaccinated by November 29 under a new public order.

Meanwhile, a Canberra principal appeared in a video criticising the vaccine mandate for ACT school staff.
