ACT records ninth straight day of no COVID-19 cases

Canberra has gone nine days without a new coronavirus diagnosis in the capital.

The total number of confirmed cases still stands at 107 with the death toll at three.

The ACT remains the only state or territory in the country where there are no known active cases of COVID-19.

There have now been more than 12,500 negative tests for the virus recorded at the Weston Creek walk-in centre and the drive-thru testing clinic at EPIC.

More than 200 tests were carried out in the last day alone.

Health authorities have previously said the number of coronavirus tests in Canberra had more than doubled in the past fortnight, as testing criteria expanded.

Testing rates had increased from around 90 per day to around 250 every day.

ACT health authorities continue to urge Canberrans to remain vigilant despite the easing of coronavirus restrictions.

Gatherings of up to 10 people inside a home and in outdoor areas are permitted.

Cafes and restaurants will be allowed to reopen to customers from midnight on Friday but a 10-customer limit will be in place.

Parks, reserves, dog parks, playgrounds and outdoor exercise equipment will also reopen as part of eased restrictions.
