ACT records nine new COVID-19 cases, no hospitalisations, as vaccination certificates added to Check In CBR app

For the first time since early in Canberra's lockdown, there are no people in hospital in the ACT with COVID-19.

The ACT recorded nine new cases of COVID-19 overnight.

There are currently 150 active cases of COVID-19 in the territory, with a total of 1,769 cases associated with the Delta outbreak.

A total of 1,910 negative tests were received yesterday, and over 95 per cent of the eligible ACT population are now fully vaccinated.

There have been 11 deaths associated with this outbreak in the ACT.

Vaccination certificates added to Check In CBR app

Canberrans can now add their COVID-19 vaccination certificate to the Check In CBR app, despite proof of vaccination status not being required for entrance to most venues in the ACT.

The digital certificate can be linked using either the Express Plus Medicare App, or an existing myGov account.

Once uploaded, the certificate will be available through a tab, and the home page will show a green tick next to the individual's name.

Despite the update, ACT health authorities said they did not intend to mandate proof of vaccination for entry into hospitality and business sectors in the territory.

Rather, ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said ease of access was one of the main reasons for adding the new app feature.

"We heard from our community that having the option to demonstrate their vaccination status quickly and easily was important to them, so the Check In CBR team has been working closely with the Australian government to add this feature to the app," Ms Stephen-Smith said.

"While the ACT government has no plans to make proof of vaccination mandatory across sectors such as hospitality, the new Check In CBR feature will make it easier for Canberrans to provide verification of their vaccination status if required."

The Check In CBR app is compatible with the family of apps used in Queensland, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

"This is one of the ways that we are supporting Canberrans to transition to a new COVID normal."

ACT Health chief information officer Peter O'Halloran told ABC Radio Canberra this morning that just because Canberra businesses did not often require proof of vaccination, did not mean Canberrans would not need the feature for travel.

"Because Check In CBR works in three other jurisdictions it's interoperable," he said.

"It means if you go to Queensland, the Northern Territory or Tasmania, you use Check In CBR with your vaccination certificate and it's there and displayed to meet those requirements in those jurisdictions."

Over the border in New South Wales, proof of full vaccination is required to enter most businesses, including shopping malls and hospitality venues.

The Service NSW app is needed to check in and out.
