ACT records eight new cases of COVID-19 as vaccination rate hits 97.9 per cent

The ACT has reported eight new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm Wednesday, as the vaccination rate creeps forward.

The new cases bring the active total to 128 with the total number of cases for this outbreak coming in at 2018.

There are seven people in hospital because of COVID, three of them are in intensive care, and one is being ventilated.

There were 1747 negative tests received in the 24 hours to 9am Wednesday, a slight increase from Tuesday's reporting when there were 1682 negative tests returned.

Meantime, the percentage of the eligible population who are now fully vaccinated has reached 97.9 per cent.

A new exposure location has been released by ACT Health. Anyone who attended Canberra Indoor Rock Climbing at 26 Raws Crescent, Hume on Saturday, November 27 between 11.30am to 12pm is considered a casual contact.

NSW has recorded 271 COVID-19 cases and no deaths but residents are being urged to get tested after six cases of the Omicron variant of the virus were confirmed in the state.

The new cases were diagnosed from 81,877 tests undertaken in the 24-hours to 8pm on Wednesday.

There are 144 patients in hospital, 24 of them in ICU.

Some 94.6 per cent of people 16 and older have had one vaccine dose, while 92.6 per cent are fully jabbed.

Victoria has recorded another 10 deaths from COVID-19 and 1419 new cases, as the state hits 91 per cent double dose vaccination.

There are 12,728 active coronavirus cases in the state and 288 patients in hospital. Forty one people are in intensive care and 20 of them are on a ventilator.

Meanwhile, medical regulators have approved a new antibody treatment for COVID-19 as the Prime Minister urged for calm over the Omicron variant.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration granted approval for the use of tocilizumab, a treatment for patients hospitalised with COVID-19 who require oxygen.
