ACT records 138 new cases of COVID-19

The ACT has reported 138 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm Tuesday. This is down from a record-breaking 252 cases announced on Tuesday.

The new cases bring the active total to 1028, diagnosed after 3041 negative results in the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday.

There are four people in hospital because of COVID, none in intensive care.

The total number of cases since August 2021 comes in at 3187.

Meanwhile, from January 1 ACT residents travelling into Queensland will only require a rapid antigen test to satisfy border requirements.

NSW has recorded 11,201 COVID-19 cases and three deaths, a significant rise in coronavirus cases with almost twice as many people being confirmed with the virus overnight.

The new cases were diagnosed from 157,758 tests undertaken in the 24 hours to 8pm on Tuesday.

There are 625 patients in hospital, 61 in the ICU.

Victoria has recorded another five deaths from COVID-19 and 3767 new cases, the state's highest daily number since the start of the pandemic.

There are 19,994 active coronavirus cases in the state and 397 patients in hospital.

A total of 62 people are in intensive care, with 28 of those on a ventilator.

Tasmania has recorded 55 new coronavirus cases.

There are now 300 active infections across the state.

The majority of active cases, 158, are being managed at home, while there are 63 people in community management clinics and one person is in hospital for an unrelated medical condition.
