ACT records 11 new cases of COVID-19, testing rates surge

The ACT has reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm on Wednesday as demand for testing increases across the territory.

The new cases bring the active total to 61.

There are three people in hospital because of COVID with one person in intensive care.

There were 2491 negative tests received in the 24 hours to 9am Thursday.

Meantime, the percentage of the eligible population who are now fully vaccinated remains at 98.3 per cent.

Testing demand surges

Demand for COVID-19 testing in Canberra has soared with government run clinics closing on Wednesday when they reached capacity.

NSW has recorded 1742 COVID-19 cases and zero deaths after predictions the tally could soar to 25,000 infections a day next month.

The new cases were diagnosed from 143,938 tests undertaken in the 24-hours to 8pm on Wednesday.

There are 192 patients in hospital, 22 of them in ICU.

Some 94.8 per cent of people 16 and older have had one vaccine dose, while 93.3 per cent are fully jabbed.

Victoria has recorded another nine deaths from COVID-19 and 1622 new cases.

A total of 384 people are in hospital with 87 in intensive care actively infected, 49 are on a ventilator.
