ACT records 252 COVID cases as govt changes exposure site system

The ACT has reported 252 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm on Monday, breaking the daily record for the second day in a row this week.

The latest figures come after 189 cases were announced for the previous reporting period.

The new cases bring the active total to 908. There have been 3062 cases since August 2021.

There were 2980 negative tests received in the 24 hours to 9am on Tuesday. Three people are in hospital with none in intensive care.

Meanwhile, the percentage of the eligible population who are now fully vaccinated remains at 98.5 per cent.

Changes to classification of exposure sites

ACT Health has reviewed the risk assessment process for exposure locations to focus on locations that have the highest risk of transmission to high-risk settings and priority populations.

As a result, many locations that had been identified as casual contact are being reclassified as "monitor for symptoms".

Symptom-free individuals who have been to a "monitor for symptoms" location at the specified time no longer need to quarantine and do not require a COVID-19 test.

However, people who have attended these locations should be particularly vigilant for any symptoms, and if they develop, they should get tested with a COVID-19 PCR test and isolate until a negative result is received.

This change does not affect people identified as casual contacts based on their known interactions with a confirmed case, who will still be required to get tested and isolate until they receive a negative result.

Check In CBR now supports push notifications for exposure sites to help people know when they have been at an exposure site and what they need to do. People should make sure their app is updated to the latest version and that they have notifications turned on.

With these changes, SMS text messages will no longer be sent to people who have been to exposure sites identified by Check In CBR.

People who have previously been advised they were at an exposure site should check the list of sites again. Anyone who was previously advised they were at a casual exposure site that is now classified as "monitor for symptoms", and who is symptom-free, does not need to wait to hear from ACT Health, but can leave quarantine immediately.

Anyone who is awaiting a test result and has symptoms, not matter how mild, should remain isolated until they receive their result.

Around Australia

NSW has recorded 6062 COVID-19 cases and one death as travellers seeking COVID-19 tests clog up the already overwhelmed system.

The new cases were diagnosed from 93,581 tests undertaken in the 24 hours to 8pm on Monday.

There are 557 patients in hospital, 60 of them in the ICU.

A total of 93.5 per cent of people aged over 16 have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in NSW.

Victoria has recorded another four deaths from COVID-19 and 2738 new cases.

There are 17,821 active coronavirus cases in the state and 69 people in intensive care with 33 of those on a ventilator.
