ACT Policing was pleasantly surprised after very few drivers were found flouting driving rules during a road policing and ACT Road Traffic Authority operation.
During the operation in Hume on November 18, only one driver was found with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit of the 177 breath tested. None of the 15 tested for drugs had positive tests.
Police issued three fines, one for driving without a licence, another for displaying false plates and one for driving an unregistered vehicle.
Detective Acting Inspector Ivan Naspe described the joint operation as encouraging.
"Yesterday's joint operation was a very positive engagement for ACT Policing," Detective Acting Inspector Naspe said.
"While National Road Safety Week is a great time for us to reach out to the ACT community, I'd like to remind Canberrans police are always on the lookout for drink and drug drivers.
"You can expect to see police conducting roadside alcohol or drug screening at any time, on any road in marked and unmarked vehicles and we have more operations planned with our ACT Government colleagues."
Detective Acting Inspector Naspe reminded Canberrans to keep up the good behaviour.
"If you are headed out and plan to consume alcohol, don't drive. It's that simple."
