Local representatives in Coalisland have spoken out against a "reprehensible" act of vandalism which caused significant damage to playing fields in the Gortgonis area of the Co Tyrone town.
Vehicle tracks can be seen across pitches at the facilities with a local football team having to reschedule their fixture this weekend as a result.
Due to the time of year, the playing fields at Gortgonis will not be able to be repaired immediately.
Independent councillor Dan Kerr said those responsible should think about doing something more positive for their community.
Cllr Kerr added: “I think these actions are reprehensible, I don’t know how anyone could get any type of satisfaction by carrying out such vandalism.
“The facilities are used on a daily basis by different age groups and I’m aware that local soccer teams have to rearrange fixtures this weekend as the pitch is not playable.
“I would like to believe that in future they would reconsider their actions and consider contributing something more positive to the community”
SDLP councillor Malachy Quinn said it was "yet another example of vandalism in our town".
Cllr Quinn added: “How do we encourage growth and new prospects in the town if we can't respect and look after what we already have?
“To think of the amount of young people from all sides of the community, those with disabilities and those who use it for fun – for a very small minority just to ruin in one night?”
The PSNI is appealing for information in relation to the incident.
Apolice statement said: “Police are appealing for information following an incident at Gortgonis Playing Field in Coalisland where significant damage was caused to the running track and playing pitch.
“Anyone with information can send us a PM or call 101 quoting reference number 840 03/10/21.”
