An ACT man has been charged with firearm and drug-related offences following a vehicle stop in NSW's Alpine region yesterday.
About 2.30pm on Friday, officers from the Monaro Highway Patrol stopped a Mitsubishi Triton on Kosciuszko Road, Coolringdon, about 12 kilometres west of Cooma, after it was allegedly detected speeding.
Upon speaking with the driver, a 28-year-oldman from Gilmore, police noticed camouflage and hunting-related clothing in the vehicle, as well as a compound bow.
Checks on the man revealed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant in NSW, and he was arrested at the scene.
Rural Crime Prevention Team officers later searched the vehicle, and allegedly found a loaded CMC Howa 1500 22-250 calibre rifle, ammunition and 3.3 grams of a substance believed to be methylamphetamine.
The man was taken to Cooma Police Station where he was charged with possessing a loaded firearm in a public place, possessing an unauthorised firearm, not keeping a firearm safely, possessing unauthorised ammunition and possessing a prohibited drug. He was also served with an outstanding warrant for break and enter offences.
He was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court via video link later today.
