ACT man dies from COVID, eight new cases

A man in his 80s has become the latest COVID-19 fatality in the ACT.

The man died on Tuesday after being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care.

ACT health authorities said the man had underlying health conditions.

It takes the death toll in Canberra during the latest outbreak to 12.

It comes as the national capital recorded eight new infections during the past reporting period.

There are now four COVID-19 patients being treated in hospital, of those two are in intensive care and none are on a ventilator.

In the ACT, 98.1 per cent of residents 12 and over are fully vaccinated.

There were 1675 negative tests conducted in the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday.

The number of active cases has fallen further, with 79 in the Canberra community.
