ACT Labor has pledged to expand a program to improve path networks and promote accessibility for older Canberrans.
Labor's spokesman for Older Canberrans Gordon Ramsay said the party would expand its age friendly suburbs program, which involved completing missing path connections, installing crossings, ramps and refuge islands.
"If re-elected, ACT Labor will expand this program in additional suburbs over the next four years with a $2 million investment in Reid, Chifley, Scullin and O'Connor," Mr Ramsay said.
"Today is International Day for Older Persons, and ACT Labor has a strong track record on delivering for older Canberrans."
Mr Ramsay said the initiative would support local jobs, building on the work completed in 12 Canberra suburbs in the past four years.
"In addition to this, ACT Labor will also re-commit to fully implementing our aged friendly city plan. We will ensure older Canberrans are able to participate, are valued and are well represented in our community."
This week ACT Council of Social Services called on parties to commit to measures to meet the transport and housing needs of older Canberrans and people living with a disability. The organisation also called for full funding to implement laws which made elder abuse a specific criminal offence.
The Canberra Liberals previously committed to building a dementia-friendly neighbourhood.
