ACT is coronavirus-free again

There have been no new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the ACT in the past 24 hours, according to ACT Health.

On top of that, the one person suffering from the illness has recovered so there are now no known active cases in the territory.

On the latest figures announced on Saturday, there have been a total of 113 cases in the ACT, of which 110 patients recovered and three died.

An outbreak in June broke a run of two months without a case. There were fears the virus was back but vigorous contact tracing by the authorities stopped any further spread.

There was also a spike of five new cases in the middle of July, with the initial case linked to a visit to Melbourne when the disease was uncontrolled.

ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman said while it was important to note the achievements and good work of Canberrans in the fight against COVID-19, this was not the time to be complacent.

"Having zero active cases of COVID-19 in the ACT is, of course, good news," Dr Coleman said. "But it doesn't mean we can let our guard down."

"The pandemic is not over and we must remain vigilant. We only need to have a look at what is happening in Victoria and NSW to see how the situation can change quickly.

"Our continued success in the fight against this virus relies on Canberrans maintaining this effort in the weeks and months ahead."

The ACT health authorities are monitoring the situations in Victoria and Sydney closely.

Anybody returning from Victoria has to go into 14 days of quarantine.

And people who have been in particular venues in Sydney at specified times should:

The venues are:

  • Bankstown: St Brendan's Catholic Church
  • Cabramatta: Tan Viet Noodle House
  • Mount Pritchard: Mounties, 101 Meadows Road
  • Mount Pritchard: Our Lady of Mt Carmel
  • Potts Point: The Apollo
  • Potts Point: Thai Rock Restaurant
  • Rookwood: St John of God Lawn
  • St Leonards: Fitness First
  • Surry Hills: Hotel Harry (Harpoon Harry)
