ACT goes 37 days without new coronavirus case

No new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the ACT in the past 24 hours.

It's been 37 days since the last recorded cases of COVID-19 was detected in Canberra on July 10.

The ACT is the only jurisdiction on the mainland to have no active cases of the virus.

Almost 200 coronavirus tests were conducted in the previous 24-hour period, bringing the total to 64,895 since the start of the pandemic.

An ACT Health spokesman said a further 22 ACT residents returned to Canberra on Saturday after being stuck at the Victorian and NSW border.

Canberrans stuck at the border have been able to return to the ACT with the correct permits since Thursday.

The travel arrangements struck between the NSW and ACT government allowing Canberrans to return home end on Monday.

"Returning residents will immediately begin 14 days quarantine and will be supported by ACT Health during this time," the spokesman said.

"We remind any Canberrans still in Victoria of the requirement to notify ACT Health before returning to the ACT."

ACT Health has also advised Canberrans who have attended the Chopstix Asian Cuisine restaurant at the Smithfield RSL in Sydney between July 31 and August 9 to monitor for coronavirus symptoms.

The restaurant was linked to two new coronavirus cases after two staff members became infected.

NSW recorded five new cases of coronavirus in the 24 hours to 8pm on Saturday.

ACT residents have been urged not to travel to greater Sydney due to the outbreak of new coronavirus cases in the area.

Canberra has not recorded any new coronavirus case for 37 days.
