ACT firefighters sent to battle northern NSW bushfires

Crews from the ACT have been sent to battle out of control bushfires that have devastated parts of northern NSW.

Twelve Parks and Conservation crew members have been deployed to fight blazes in Rappville, near Casino, which have already destroyed at least 30 homes.

Police and fire authorities are treating the Busbys Flat fire as suspicious, with Strike Force Cleander set up to investigate the fire.

The fire has been burning in the area since Thursday, with the exact number of buildings destroyed yet to be determined.

An ACT Emergency Services Agency spokesman said the Canberra crews being sent to help fight blazes in NSW would not impact on firefighting capabilities in the ACT.

The ACT has deployed 110 firefighters to help tackle blazes so far this bushfire season in parts of Queensland and northern NSW.

As of Thursday afternoon, more than 40 bushfires were burning across NSW.
