ACT daily record broken for second day with 85 new cases

The ACT has recorded 85 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm Wednesday, as daily numbers continue to break records.

A then record-breaking 58 new daily cases were announced on Wednesday.

The new cases bring the active total cases in the territory to 245.

There are three people in hospital because of COVID, but none in intensive care.

There were 5215 negative tests received in the 24 hours to 9am Thursday as long wait times as clinics continue.

Meanwhile, the percentage of the eligible population who are now fully vaccinated remains as 98.4 per cent.

NSW has recorded 5715 COVID-19 cases and one death as case numbers continue to explode across the state.

The new cases were diagnosed from more than 160,000 tests undertaken in the 24-hours to 8pm on Wednesday.

There are 347 patients in hospital, 45 of them in ICU.

Some 94.9 per cent of people 16 and older have had one vaccine dose, while 93.5 per cent are fully jabbed.

Victoria has recorded another 10 deaths from COVID-19 and 2005 new cases.

There are 14,801 active coronavirus cases in the state and 398 patients in hospital, the seven-day average is steady at 391.

A total of 72 people are in intensive care with 39 of those on a ventilator.

Meanwhile, Tasmania has reported 26 new coronavirus cases, the most recorded for the state in a single day since the start of the pandemic.

The latest infections, reported on Thursday, bring Tasmania's number of active cases to 52.

All of the active cases have been recorded since Tasmania reopened to fully vaccinated travellers from the mainland on December 15.

Twenty-eight cases are being managed at home, 10 are in a community case-management facility and 12 are still being assessed or processed.
