Canberra early childhood educator and artist Adam Duncan - and the kids of the Wiradjuri Preschool and Childcare Centre at the University of Canberra - will appear on Play School on Monday.

Mr Duncan is part of a segment on the iconic kids' show in which he does a dot painting, part of Play School's focus on maths for the week.

"The idea was they were doing an episode about patterns and they were looking for an Indigenous perspective of patterns and pattern-making," he said.

Mr Duncan, who is the educational leader at the centre, fitted the bill.

The episode was recorded in July.

The children all got involved, doing their own paintings and explaining what was in the dots.

"They sat in on what was a reasonably normal day for us. We do this stuff on a daily basis, anyway," he said.

A Biripi man from Taree, Mr Duncan, 36, graduated from the University of Canberra in 2011. He always wanted to work in childcare.

"For me, it is such a vital time to be involved in a child's life. We can have just a great input into their development," he said.

Mr Duncan's art is also contemporary dot paintings.

The childcare centre and preschool at UC has 25 to 30 children attending, including his own daughter, Marley, 5.

They will all be tuning into Play School at 9am on Monday.

"We'll put it on and probably have a movie morning," Mr Duncan said.
