WASAGAMING, Man. — On a fall evening in Manitoba's Riding Mountain National Park you might hear elk, moose, wolves and migrating birds.
The sounds, as night descends, include a varied mix of grunts, howls and bugles, says tour operator Earth Rhythms.
The company, winner of a Travel Manitoba tourism leadership award, is offering naturalist-guided acoustical walks into the park's wilderness from Sept. 10 to Oct. 8.
The two- to three-hour Saturday outings, each to a different location, will explore the soundscape during the transition from dusk to darkness. They wrap up with audio of a different kind: musical sessions featuring local songwriters offering their take on the natural world.
"We accept nature on its own terms," Earth Rhythms says, noting the walks are rain-or-shine events. "We'll adapt accordingly."
