Achraf Lazaar to return to Newcastle United's first-team training base

Achraf Lazaar will return to the Magpies' first-team training base today after two years of reserve team isolation under Rafa Benitez.

The Morocco international was told to train with the Under-23 side in each of the last two seasons while also heading out on loan stints with Benevento and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

Now 27, Lazaar - who also saw a move to Genoa in Serie A slip from his grasp - is one of a clutch of players praying for a second chance a the club.

Speaking in Italy to Calciomercato, Lazaar said: “I have finished my holidays and now I go back to Newcastle (for pre-season).

“In the coming days, I will start training for the new season.

“Will I go back to Italy?

“Now there is nothing.

“I think only of Newcastle."

Rolando Aarons has also been back at the senior end of the training ground in recent days.

The winger spent last term on loan at Sheff Wed too and was under the impression he had no future under Benitez.
