Achraf Lazaar has accepted his "past mistakes" and hopes to seal a return to Italy to end his Newcastle United nightmare.
That's according to the Moroccan international's new agent Vincenzo Pisacane, who claims he worked "until the last day of the market" to secure the defender a Magpies exit in the latest transfer window.
Lazaar signed for the Magpies from Palermo in the summer of 2016, but almost immediately fell out of favour under Rafa Benitez.
Loan spells in Italy with Benevento and Cosenza as well as a stint with current United head coach Steve Bruce at Sheffield Wednesday followed.
The 28-year-old has made just 10 appearances in black-and-white in four years, and was transfer listed a year after his arrival.
Lazaar has entered the final year of his contract at St James' Park, and was left out of Bruce's 25-man squad for the Premier League campaign.
However, the left-back remains on Tyneside and made a surprise appearance for the club's under-23s against Fulham last month.
Pisacane insists there was interest in Lazaar in the closing stages of the transfer window, but offers to end his Magpies exile were not forthcoming.
Despite this latest setback, the agent insists the defender is a "strong player" and hopes to seal a return to Italy sooner rather than later.
Pisacane told TuttoMercatoWeb: “We worked to bring him back to Italy until the last day of the market. There was some interest, but it did not materialise.
“I hope to see him again in our [Italian] league. He must find continuity. He knows what were the mistakes of the past, he is a strong player.”
