Achraf Lazaar jets out to Italy to hold talks with Serie A clubs after Newcastle United trim squad

Achraf Lazaar is preparing to fly out to Italy with his agent for talks with a clutch of Serie A clubs.

The left-sided player started pre-season with Newcastle United and was hoping for a fresh start at the club under Steve Bruce, but the head coach is set to leave the Morocco international out of his 25-man squad for the Premier League season.

Lazaar is understood to be disappointed by the decision but the situation has teed up discussions with sides in Italy where the 27-year-old has property.

Having started his career with Varese and moving on to Palermo before signing for Newcastle , Lazaar is hopeful of rekindling his career in Italy.

The plus point for Lazaar is he now has until September 2 to get a deal fixed up.

Lazaar spent last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and there has been interest again from the Championship side on deadline day.

However, his preference is to rebuild his career in Serie A where he also spent part of the 2017/18 campaign with as a loanee with Benevento.
