Acharya Pramod Krishnam criticizes Jaya Bachchan over 'bodies in Ganga' remark: 'Till now only Amitabh Bachchan was unhappy with her, now...'

Acharya Pramod Krishnam has joined the growing chorus of criticism against Jaya Bachchan following her remarks about the waters of the Ganga allegedly being polluted.

Taking a swipe at the actress and MP, he said in a statement to IANS, "Until now, only Amitabh Bachchan was unhappy with Jaya Bachchan. Now, she is trying to make the entire Sanatan community unhappy..."

"I pray that god and Holy Ganga give her wisdom and her belief in the religion is deepened. The way she is a good actor and good Member of Parliament, she should become a good member of the Sanatan dharm," he said and concluded requesting the actress, "Don't behave like a non-believer."

The controversy erupted after Bachchan made statements outside Parliament, claiming that the Ganga’s water was polluted, not only that, she also alleged that bodies were being disposed of in the river. As reported by ANI, Bachchan remarked, "Where is the water most contaminated right now? It's in Kumbh. Bodies have been thrown in the river, which has led to contamination... The real issues are not being addressed."

When questioned about allegations that no postmortem was conducted for victims of the recent stampede, Bachchan retorted, "This is not about the postmortem. Dead bodies were taken and put in the river. Doesn't that make the water contaminated? And here they are giving speeches on 'jal shakti' in the house."

Bachchan’s statements drew sharp criticism from several quarters, including the VHP's Sharad Sharma who condemned her remarks saying, "Jaya Bachchan should be arrested for spreading sensation by giving false and untrue statements," Sharma told PTI.

Actor and BJP MP Arun Govil also weighed in, demanding that Bachchan provide evidence to support her claims. "Has she given any proof? She has not given anything, so she has no right to say all this," Govil told ANI.
