An accused stabber charged with the attempted murder of two men in Melbourne has faced court from hospital.

Rory McAuley, 20, faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, two days after the attacks on two men in a Brunswick supermarket.

McAuley is charged with a string of offences over the 8am attack on Monday, including two charges of attempted murder, intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury, making threats to kill and theft.

The two victims were treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

McAuley is also in hospital and appeared in court over the phone.

His lawyer Rose George said McAuley had been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and schizophrenia and was receiving medical treatment.

McAuley's case is due back in court in February.
