Accused murderer made sexually explicit remarks to missing wife's best friend, court told

The day after allegedly murdering his wife, a Gold Coast businessman made explicit remarks and propositioned her best friend for sex, and months later offered her some of his wife's handbags, a court has heard.

John Chardon has denied killing his wife Novy Chardon, 34, who disappeared from their Upper Coomera home in February 2013.

Her body has never been found.

His Supreme Court murder trial in Brisbane has heard the pair was in the midst of a divorce.

Ms Chardon's best friend, Frederika Wong, told the court when Ms Chardon failed to show up for a coffee date she visited her Upper Coomera home to check on her.

Ms Wong said John Chardon invited her inside and told her Ms Chardon had packed up and left their family.

She told the court: "John was saying the kids are happier without their mum."

Ms Wong said Mr Chardon was complaining that the house was messy and took her to the pair's bedroom to show her he had been cleaning the carpet which was still wet.

She said he then propositioned her.

"He asked if my husband makes me happy," Ms Wong said.

Ms Wong testified Mr Chardon then made sexually explicit remarks and said he could make her orgasm.

She told the court she then told Mr Chardon she had to leave.

Ms Wong said during her visit Mr Chardon also asked her if she wanted his wife's handbags.

"He said I can choose any of the bags," Ms Wong said.

"I said, 'no I don't want any of that ... it belongs to Novy'."

But under cross-examination, Ms Wong agreed the conversation about the bags happened two months later during another visit, when Mr Chardon said it looked as though his wife wasn't coming back.

Ms Wong said there had been nothing unusual about her friend's behaviour the last time she saw her.

She said she had signed an affidavit to accompany Ms Chardon's divorce paperwork, which was served to Mr Chardon the day she disappeared.

During cross-examination, defence counsel Tony Kimmins asked Ms Wong about Ms Chardon's relationship with another man in 2012.

Mr Kimmins said Ms Chardon would visit him at times on the Sunshine Coast while John Chardon stayed at home and looked after the pair's children.

Ms Wong told the court Ms Chardon had told her she loved the other man but the relationship eventually broke down.

The court has heard Novy and John Chardon separated in 2012 but were living under the same roof.

The trial continues.
