A man has appeared in court charged with raping a woman after offering her a ride home from a night out in Melbourne.

Abdouslam Alsharif, 50, is charged with two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault on April 30.

He allegedly offered the 20-year-old woman, who thought she was getting a ride share, a free lift home after she left a licensed Collingwood venue early in the morning, police previously said.

Alsharif then allegedly drove the woman to a nearby area and assaulted her.

The Mill Park man did not apply for bail in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday, appearing alongside an Arabic interpreter.

Charge sheets alleged Alsharif digitally and orally raped the woman, and put his hand inside her shirt, touching her breast, without her consent.

It's the man's first time in custody and he suffers a range of gastric health issues for which he is prescribed medication, his legal aid lawyer said.

Alsharif will undergo a medical assessment in custody ahead of a committal mention on July 30.
