NEW YORK _ The man accused of sending letter bombs to President Donald Trump's political critics was ordered held without bail following his first appearance in a New York courtroom.
Cesar Sayoc, 56, appeared alert during the brief appearance in federal court in Manhattan and spoke frequently with his court-appointed attorney.
He answered the judge's questions with "Yes, 100 percent" several times.
U.S. Attorney Jane Kim asked Sayoc be held without bail because he is "a serious risk of danger to the public and a flight risk."
Sayoc had been held in Florida since his arrest near Fort Lauderdale on Oct. 26. He'd been living in a van covered in stickers of Trump and images of the president's foes with crosshairs over their faces.
He's accused of sending crude bombs to Trump's nemeses, most of them Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, California Rep. Maxine Waters, former President Barack Obama, ex-Vice President Joe Biden, left-leaning philanthropist George Soros, CNN and Oscar-winner Robert De Niro, among others.
