Accused Islamic State supporter 'has no case to answer'

A 23-year-old Adelaide woman accused of supporting the Islamic State terrorist group will remain in custody until at least the middle of November, despite her lawyer telling the Magistrates Court she has no case to answer.

The western suburbs woman, whose identity is suppressed, was arrested in May, and has been in custody since.

The Australian citizen of Somali background allegedly formed online relationships with members of Islamic State, and had pledged her allegiance.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, defence lawyer Craig Caldicott said the case should be dropped.

"They say they've got sufficient [evidence] for a case to answer, we say that there isn't, we say there's no case," Mr Caldicott said.

"They've had a lot of time to put it together.

"She's 23 years of age, she's in custody, she's maintaining her plea of not guilty."

Prosecutors insisted they had enough evidence to proceed.

They asked for more time to gather information from Kenya, and also a forensic analysis of the woman's laptop.

The court had earlier heard the woman allegedly tried to fly to Istanbul last year using a one-way ticket but was arrested by Australian Federal Police, interviewed, and her passport cancelled.

It also heard the woman's "mentor" had carried out a knife and bomb attack on police in Kenya last year.

A large group of supporters from the woman's community attended the hearing.

The woman watched proceedings via a video link from jail.
