Accused child sex offender arrested after three months on the run

Wyong courthouse.

A MAN who failed to appear in court over allegations he sexually assaulted a five-year-old girl at Lake Macquarie in 2019, prompting a magistrate to issue a warrant for his arrest, has been apprehended after three months on the run.

The man, 45, was initially arrested at Cooranbong in October, 2019, after an investigation by Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad detectives into the alleged sexual abuse of a young girl.

The man was granted bail and ultimately pleaded not guilty to three child sexual assault charges, including intentionally carrying out a sexual act with a child under the age of 10.

But when he failed to appear at a hearing in Toronto Local Court in October, 2020, a magistrate revoked his bail and issued a warrant for his arrest.

The man remained at large until he was arrested on the Central Coast last week.

The 45-year-old's matter was mentioned in Wyong Local Court on Thursday, when it was noted he was in hospital, and he was refused bail to appear in the same court on Monday.

The man was refused bail again on Monday to appear in court on Wednesday.
