Accused armed robber nabbed

Maitland courthouse.

A MAN who allegedly used a large knife in an attempt to hold up a Tarro convenience store on Tuesday has been refused bail in Maitland Local Court.

Dylan Edward Green, 21, appeared in court in handcuffs on Wednesday charged with one count of attempted robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

He did not enter a plea or apply for bail and the matter was adjourned to the same court on September 15.

Police say they responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery at a convenience store in Anderson Drive about 4pm on Tuesday.

Police from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended, established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Police were told by the 42-year-old male shop owner that a man entered the store with a large knife and demanded cash and cigarettes.

But when the owner challenged the man, he fled the store empty handed.

The shop owner was not injured.

Police said that Mr Green attended Maitland police station about 6.50pm on Tuesday and was arrested.

He was later charged with armed robbery and refused bail by police to appear in court on Wednesday.

Armed robbery carries a maximum of 20 years jail.
