According to Adam Schefter, Washington’s dreams of Mike Tomlin are ‘far-fetched’

Redskins Nation is currently riding high after notching their first victory of the 2019 season, but after the thrill of winning wears off over the next 24 hours, it might be smart to temper expectations on the coaching front as well.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the outlandish rumors surrounding the Washington head coaching vacancy and a possible interest in Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin are “far-fetched.”

Schefter says that in order for the Redskins to lure Tomline away from the Steelers — where he still has two years left on his contract — they would need to make an offer so enticing that the team couldn’t turn it down. A source told Schefter that this isn’t going to happen.

“I don’t see Mike going to Washington,” the source continued. “That is so far-fetched. It’s so far out there. It would have to be a deal that the league never has seen before and would change the way business is done in football, and I don’t see that happening.”

Schefter also reported on Sunday that the Redskins don’t plan to begin their coaching search until after the season ends, giving interim head coach Bill Callahan free reign to run the team with confidence that he won’t be canned should things stay on the current trajectory.

“Washington intends to be patient, let the season play out and then move its head-coaching search into overdrive when the rest of the league’s teams making head-coaching changes do the same,” Schefter said.
