'Accomplished' - How the national media rated Harry Winks' England performance vs Kosovo

It was a night that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is likely to never forget.

The 23-year-old scored his first international goal by bagging the opener in England's 4-0 win over Kosovo in their final qualification game before Euro 2020.

There wasn't too much at stake ahead of the match, with Gareth Southgate's men confirming their place at next summer's tournament earlier in the week with a 7-0 thrashing of Montenegro, but the fight for a place in the squad for the competition is now on, with players eager to impress.

Kosovo have been praised for their willingness to take the game to teams, and Sunday evening was no different, with the England defence tested all night.

But Winks' goal in the 32nd minute put the Three Lions on their way to victory.

So how did the media rate the Spurs midfielder's performance? Take a look below for a roundup of what they had to say.

The Guardian

"It was a display of control from Gareth Southgate’s young team, which was marked by Harry Winks’s 32nd-minute goal – his first in an England shirt – and glossed by a late surge that showed how ruthless they can be when they find their connections..."

"Winks caught the eye as a No8 rather than a midfield pivot, showing composure under pressure and linking to the forwards."

Sky Sports

"Allowed more freedom with Declan Rice alongside him, Winks capped off a man of the match display with the opening goal of the game. Taking the defender out of the game with his first touch from Oxlade-Chamberlain's pass, before passing the ball into the bottom corner. Southgate may have been frustrated with the amount of cynical fouls given away by the Spurs man, but that was a small mark on an otherwise accomplished performance. Barring injury, Winks will be in the Euro 2020 squad." Rating: 7

The Daily Mail

"His fourth consecutive international start and capped another largely accomplished display with his first England goal." Rating: 8

The Express

"Really looked the part on the international stage this week and his goal was calmly taken and thoroughly deserved." Rating: 8

The Times

"Built on fine display against Montenegro by scoring his first international goal. Dictated the tempo" Rating: 8
