Hamilton Accies Women boss Gary Doctor was delighted with his side’s 5-0 restart to the season, but warned that they can’t afford to drop any points.
Accies beat Queen’s Park 5-0 on Sunday, with a Josephine Giard double and strikes by Magan Quigley, Ellie Kane and Kathleen McGovern on her debut on loan from Celtic.
That was a perfect start for Accies in SWPL2, but to achieve their promotion goal there is no room for error.
Ahead of clashes against Glasgow Women last night (Wednesday) and St Johnstone on Sunday, Doctor said: “We can’t really afford to drop points.
“It’s not the end of the world if we do, but it’s not something we want to get into when we’ve still got Partick, Aberdeen, then Dundee United.
“It’s one game after the other and every single one is harder and harder – there’s not an easy game.
“All we can do is focus on the next match, see how we’re looking in preparation for it, and hopefully we’ve done enough to give ourselves a chance, but we know there’s so much still to go, realistically.
“It’s a bit of a relentless schedule, but we’re happy to do that if it means we get this chance for a promotion place.”
Doctor was also delighted with the performance of his new striker.
He said: Kathleen scoring in her first game gives her a little bit more confidence, I hope, and it’s something for us to build upon. That should set her up and give her that boost to get going and hopefully score a few more.”
