Accies Women coach hopes poor run is a 'blip' in their season

Hamilton Accies Women boss Gary Doctor admits his side are going through a bumpy patch after back-to-back defeats put an early dent in their SWPL2 title hopes.

Having lost to a last-gasp winner at home to league leaders Aberdeen last week, Dundee United netted late to claim a 2-1 win over Accies on Sunday.

That has seen Doctor’s side slip to mid-table and eight points off the Dons after seven games.

But he is confident this spell is just a blip and they will turn things around.

He said: “We’ve not finished the first set of fixtures and there’s a lot of football to be played.

“Hopefully this is us having a bumpy patch and we get some results on the board that our play deserves.

“There’s three games before the Christmas break and hopefully we pick up results and we’ll see how the table looks at that point.

”I don’t think some teams will be able to maintain their current form.

”It’s just too tight a league and the matches are too close to call.”

Accies now host Stirling on Sunday and Doctor hopes they will have strengthened their squad in time for the clash.

He added: “We’re signing players of good quality that we will announce later in the week and, hopefully, that will give everyone a boost as well.

“We are playing well, but we are not getting our rewards. We’ll prepare for Stirling and hopefully turn the corner sooner rather than later.”
