Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid says his side will be underdogs when they travel to Hamilton Accies in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday.
Reid says his side will relish the chance to pit their wits against a team from the Championship.
But while the Cliftonhill gaffer says the group stages of the competition provide more competition than a pre-season friendly, it’s not geared up for lower league clubs to have much chance to progress.
“We will enjoy it,” said Reid. “Hamilton are obviously a good team and they were a Premiership side last season.
“It’s a good test for us. It’s just along the road and it’s a very good astroturf park but we know that it’ll be difficult.
“We will be the underdogs but it’s a case of going there and putting on a good performance.
“The League Cup is a good competition for a lot of the lower league teams because it gives you the chance to put your wits against higher ranked sides.
“It’s a good test for the players and it allows them to play at decent stadiums. You are always better playing these games than organising pre-season friendlies that aren’t competitive.
“It’s a great competition but it’s not geared up for the smaller clubs to win it.”
