Accies kids are on the right path because boss believes in them, says Academy director George Cairns

Hamilton Accies Academy director George Cairns says kids at the club are on the right path – because head coach Brian Rice believes in them.

Cairns has been delighted to see a number of his kids make it through to the first team and says that looks set to continue.

He said: “You’ve got Reegan Mimnaugh, Ronan Hughes, Ross Cunningham – who has banged in six goals this season – Scott McMann, and Brian Easton was originally part of our academy before we sold him.

“Andrew Winter was on the bench there last season, Jamie Hamilton is involved, so you hope you can push as many up there as possible, and in doing so, other kids below see that. They see that there is a chance, if you're good enough, of stepping into that first-team environment.

"The manager is great, he spends a lot of time in the afternoon out with myself and Dougie Imrie, working with the young kids, and he’s fantastic.

“Long may that continue, and he can kick on as many players as possible and give them their chance.

“The academy is always doing well. We don’t brag or preach about it, we just go and do our job.

“As a club, our owners have to buy into that, the manager has to buy into that, and the whole philosophy of the club all work off the same.

“All we do is work hard to try and get it to work, and when you see players coming through, and getting capped, it’s great.”
