Accies can take points from Dons but must cut out mistakes, says Want

Hamilton star Shaun Want says goals are going in at the right end, but it's up to him and fellow defenders to keep them out.

Accies go into a clash against Aberdeen at Pittodrie this evening knowing they're up against a side that has hit form this term.

The New Douglas Park side lost 5-3 to St Johnstone on Saturday, and crashed 3-2 at Hibs in their last league outing.

But Want points out that away wins at Motherwell and Livingston have proved Hamilton can take points on the road.

He said: "I see a lot of people saying you don’t know what to expect when Hamilton play but we know that we’re going to give it 100 per cent and give it our all in every game.

"We are scoring goals but we need to shut them up at the back and stop losing silly goals. The positive to take is that we’ve scored a good few goals in the last couple of games.

“We’ve scored five goals in two games and people are saying that our strikers aren’t scoring, but we’re starting to score from all angles now and it’s not just set pieces, so that’s good and hopefully it carries on.

“We’ve watched the goals back and it’s just a lack of concentration, and sometimes errors and mistakes, but we know how to get them right and defend as a unit, and with everybody working together, so we’re hoping to do that.

"Aberdeen are a big, physical, strong, tall team as well but we need to roll our sleeves up and stand up to that battle, match them all over the park and that’s what we want to do.

“Everybody knows that Aberdeen are a good team and the threats that they give you. They’re physical at the back but going forward they’ve got a good threat as well. That’s something we need to stand up to and be alert to.

“I’m 100 per cent confident with the guys we have in the squad that we can shore things up at the back, and we’ve shown this season when we’ve gone to places like Livingston and Motherwell that we are capable of 90 minutes of strong defending and being compact. We’re capable of it, it’s just about doing it on a consistent basis."

Want says it's also important for Hamilton not to panic should Aberdeen take an early lead.

He said: "If you look at the goals we’ve conceded they’ve been early on, and there have been positives from the way we’ve bounced back from them, but it’s important for the defence and the whole team that we start well and give ourselves a good chance for the rest of the game.

"At certain times there has been a lack of concentration here and there and that has cost us early on, but it’s important that even if we do go a goal down early on that we don’t let the head go down and we keep fighting back."
