Accies boss Brian Rice: I carry the can, but we can bounce back

Hamilton boss Brian Rice told supporters he carries the can for the team being relegated this season, but that they can bounce back from the Championship.

Accies finished bottom of the table and ended their seven-season stay in the top-flight with a 2-0 defeat at home to Kilmarnock.

Rice says everybody at the club is disappointed, and to have lost their final game, but his players gave everything they had.

He said: "It has been a horrendous time for the supporters, absolutely horrendous, not being able to get in.

"We've needed them at times, we've let them down at times, but under the circumstances I think the the boys have given it everything they've had this season and we fell short.

"We're devastated, I'm devastated, I know the supporters will be as well and they've every right to be, because we've been in the league for seven seasons and they feel part of it, and everybody wants to be in the Premiership.

"I take it on the chin, I carry the can for it, I understand that, but I've got a group of young lads who next year, with some additions and some of the experienced players back involved with them - I'm hopeful - that we're good enough to challenge."

Rice added: "In terms of league position it was decided, but in terms of going out and trying to win a football match every game matters.

"I expressed that to the young lads today, I think you saw them out there today, trying to do everything they could to win the match.

"It's disappointing for everybody connected to the club - every single player, coach, owners, supporters, and it's so disappointing, but I've got to use that, I've got to use that as a tool, and remember the disappointment to spur us on, and that's what we'll do.

"There's no time for looking back, no time for regrets or excuses, and we need to start now looking forward because we are where we are, and we need to accept that."
