Accies boss Brian Rice hopes derby win puts a smile on fans' faces

Brian Rice hopes Hamilton's derby win over Motherwell puts a smile on supporters' faces as they take bragging rights over the weekend.

Hakeem Odoffin headed in Reegan Mimnaugh's corner with four minutes remaining to take the three points across the Clyde, and Rice was delighted with the efforts of his entire squad.

He said: "I'm delighted for young Hakeem getting a goal, he has been great since he came in to the club a month ago.

"Hakeem missed one just before he scored, so it shows great credit that he was going in, and was prepared to put his head on the line.

"It was a good goal and I'm just delighted for everybody that we got the three points.

"It's three very important points, especially in a derby match, and for the fans. They can go out and enjoy their pint tonight and go to work with a smile on their face.

"My lads don't lack character, they don't lack endeavour, and I just keep saying to them that as long as they give everything they've got for that jersey they'll be fine.

"They'll make mistakes, we'll win, lose and draw games, but as long as they're giving it everything they've got, it's all I ask.

"Even in spells when we weren't playing great they were throwing their bodies on the line, and once we made the substitutions it gave us a freshness and the decent play from the kids coming on created two or three good chances.

"It was very good to get the win."

Rice says he has seen signs over recent weeks that Hamilton were getting back to the qualities that he wants to see.

"I thought in the second half against St Mirren last week that we were getting closer to where I want us to try and get to," he said. "It's going to take a while, I know that.

"One result doesn't change everything, but it gives us something to celebrate tonight and it puts a wee smile on the face and on our fans' faces."
