ACA reporter Ben McCormack makes brief court appearance on child porn charges

A Sydney magistrate has continued bail for suspended Channel 9 reporter Ben McCormack, who is accused of child pornography offences.

The 42-year-old A Current Affair (ACA) reporter is charged with using a carriage service for child pornography material.

McCormack made a brief appearance on Tuesday before the Downing Centre Local Court where prosecutors successfully sought an adjournment for two months to finish compiling the brief of evidence.

He remained silent throughout, including when he was forced to push through a large media presence waiting for him outside the court.

At the matter's last hearing in May, McCormack used a medical certificate to avoid attending.

Plea likely at next appearance, lawyer says

Speaking outside the court today, his lawyer Sam Macedone said there still had been no decision as to whether McCormack would be pleading guilty.

"I've got no idea until I get the rest of the brief," he said.

"There are some outstanding matters on the brief. When we receive those we will be in a much better position to understand what's there.

"I feel very confident that on the next occasion we'll be entering our plea."

NSW Detectives started investigating McCormack after a tip-off from the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team.

They stopped him in his car at Moore Park in April, and shortly afterwards searched a unit in Alexandria and the ACA office in Willoughby where they seized computers, a mobile phone and electronic storage devices.

The Nine Network suspended McCormack from his role as a reporter after his arrest.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail.

The case returns to court in September.
