AC Milan target £25m Liverpool-linked midfielder to replace Newcastle-bound Sandro Tonali

AC Milan have been told they must pay £25m to sign Florentino Luis this summer after 'settling' on the Liverpool-linked midfielder as their preferred replacement for Newcastle United-bound Sandro Tonali.

With the transfer window now in full swing, Liverpool have already made their mark by signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee and they continue to prioritise further recruits in their engine room. However, they are not the only Premier League club in that particular market.

Saudi-backed Newcastle - who have also been linked with Nicolo Barella this summer - appear to be closing in on Tonali for around £60m. The 22-year-old is currently away with Italy at the European Under-21 Championship, which is being held in Romania and Georgia, and which also features several players on Liverpool's radar.

Micky van de Ven, Ryan Gravenberch, Gabri Veiga, Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone are among those showcasing their talent. The tournament will put them all in the show window.

With all eyes on Florentino, meanwhile, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports it might only take £25m to win the race for his signature this summer. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has played 86 games for Benfica as well as previously spending time on loan with AS Monaco and Getafe.

He has also been capped 12 times by Portugal U21s. Florentino remains under contract until 2027.

Despite that, his proposed transfer fee is relatively cheap in the modern market. Liverpool have been mooted with interest in countless midfielders since shelving their initial plans to target Jude Bellingham in order to spread around their budget on two or three summer additions.

Florentino's name has been included tentatively along the way. Everton have, also, been linked with him in the past few months as they continue their own recruitment drive under Sean Dyche.
