AC Milan eye up loan deal for Eric Bailly and more Manchester United transfer rumours

AC Milan are reportedly eyeing up a loan deal to take Manchester United’s Eric Bailly for the rest of the season.

The defender is currently away with the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations, with the 27-year-old set to be on international duty for at least the next couple of weeks.

That hasn’t stopped any rumours over his future at United cropping up though, with the defender being linked with a move to Serie A.

Sky Italia (via Sports Mole) have suggested that Milan have identified Bailly as an ideal January signing, and are looking to sew up a loan deal until the end of the season.

The seven-time European champions are expected to target a new centre-back during the window, having lost Simon Kjaer for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.

The report also suggests that Milan are looking at Manchester City’s Nathan Ake, Arsenal’s Pablo Mari and Chelsea’s Malang Sarr as alternatives if they can’t prise Bailly away from Old Trafford.

With Raphael Varane returning to fitness, Bailly will likely find himself down the pecking order at United when he returns from AFCON.

Elsewhere, Barcelona are reported to be ending their interest in Anthony Martial, despite the forward wanting to secure a move away from United.

The Catalan giants have been linked with a move for the Frenchman, who has made his desire to move on from Old Trafford clear to Ralf Rangnick.

Various options have been mooted, including a swap deal for Ousmane Dembele, although nothing has yet materialised, with United having so far rejected an offer from Sevilla to take Martial on loan for the rest of the season.

Now, according to Spanish outlet Sport (via Sport Witness), Barcelona are said to not trust Martial’s chances of adapting to the Camp Nou, despite learning ‘first-hand’ of his availability.

It is suggested that Barca instead want to sign Edinson Cavani, but have been told ‘no’ by United, who want to keep the Uruguayan.
