AC Milan dealt transfer blow that could impact Fikayo Tomori's Chelsea future

AC Milan could be about to zone in on Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori.

The Serie A giants have been linked with the out-of-favour defender but were said to be considering their options as we head further into the January transfer window.

Tomori has struggled for game time so far this season and Frank Lampard himself has confirmed the defender could be available to leave on loan.

“The situation with Fikayo is open at the moment," he said after Tomori missed out on some much-needed action in Chelsea's FA Cup clash with Morecambe.

“There is a possibility he could be going on loan to get games somewhere else. So that would have to be the solution for him and the club. That was part of my thinking of not starting him today.

“I gave him some minutes at the end but while we were looking at that I wanted to make sure it was the right thing for the club and for him and individually. So that’s why he didn’t start.

“But his attitude, even though he hasn’t played much recently, has been fantastic in training and in how he is.”

AC Milan - who are just one of the clubs linked with a move for the defender - were said to be weighing up whether to go for the Chelsea youngster or whether to sign Strasbourg star Mohamed Simakan.

But it has now been confirmed that Simakan will miss around two months of action, perhaps only leaving Milan with Tomori in their sights as they look to strengthen their back-line during this window.

Milan are currently top of Serie A and three points ahead of city rivals Inter and the move could prove particularly useful for Tomori as he looks to continue his development with regular football at the top level.

Though, it is unclear whether Milan would be pursuing a loan deal or whether they could look to make a permanent offer for the 23-year-old Blues academy product.
