AC Milan chief delivers verdict on £23m Serge Aurier transfer after Tottenham defender's hint

Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier is not a transfer target for AC Milan.

The Ivory Coast international's future in north London is up in the air as he is being tipped to leave the club at some point during the summer transfer window.

Aurier has benefited from Kieran Tripper's departure to Atletico Madrid last summer and Kyle Walker-Peters' loan move to Southampton in January as he was effectively the first-choice right-back in the 2019/20 season.

However, he's failed to win over a large number of supporters and there are calls for Jose Mourinho to dip into the market and sign a replacement,

And following Walker-Peters' permanent move to the Saints, coupled with Spurs' links to Norwich's Max Aarons among others, there has been talk of Aurier leaving this summer.

AC Milan are said to be interested in signing the defender, although the Italians are reluctant to match the player’s £23million price-tag.

As per Calciomercato, the Ivorian right-back is willing to join the Serie A outfit, who must sell players first in order to fund the transfer.

However, the Serie A giants' director Frederic Massara, has denied that his side are tracking Aurier.

"There are many names that come close to us. Aurier is an excellent player, but at the moment there are no conditions to think about him," Massara said.

"He is not a goal."

Earlier in the month, full-back appeared to drop a hint that he may not be around much longer.

Aurier is close friends with team-mate Moussa Sissoko, who celebrated his birthday last week.

And in a birthday message on his Instagram page, Aurier appeared to have hinted that the two players may not be playing together much longer.

Whatever happens with Aurier, another name has been linked to solve Mourinho's right-back problem.

football.london understands that the Spurs boss is a big fan of Matt Doherty.

With Wolves expected to sign Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles, his ability to play at right-back could help Spurs' chances of sealing a £12m deal for the Republic of Ireland international.
