AC compressor explodes at home, 49-year-old dies

GURUGRAM: A 49-year-old man died on Friday morning after an air conditioner exploded in his house in Mohan Nagar and started a fire. His wife and children had gone to school when the incident happened around 9 am. Three fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

“We received information about the incident after fire tenders reached the spot. It took more than one hour to douse the flames. The man was taken to the hospital but was declared dead,” said a police official.

Fire officer Devender Kumar said, “We received information about a cylinder blast. But when we reached the spot, we found the AC compressor had exploded.”

According to his family, Sanjay Hasija, who had been asleep in the house, most likely woke up when there was a short circuit and tried to switch off the AC, but it exploded in his face.

“We think that when short-circuit happened, he was switching off everything, but that is when the AC exploded in his face,” said Ravi Arora, the nephew of the deceased.

The deceased worked as an AC and refrigerator repairman.

“He earlier worked at a nearby shop, but during Corona, he lost his job and was at home. But every time he got a call, he went to work,” said Arora.

Sanjay leaves behind his wife and two children, aged 17 and 14. When the incident happened, the wife was at work and the children at school. The wife worked as a peon in the same school where the two children studied. The post-mortem report suggested 100% burn injuries.
