It’s been weeks now that producer-stylist and Anil Kapoor’s daughter, Rhea Kapoor tied the knot with her long-term beau Karan Boolani. Much like their filmy love story, their intimate wedding, too, was a dreamy affair and soon-to-be brides might want to take notes. From a dramatic reception look to an after-party with friends, Rhea turned into an Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla bride, and here’s what the ace designers had to say about her look:
How does it feel to have dressed Sonam Kapoor for her D-day, followed by her sister Rhea Kapoor?
Both Rhea and Sonam are extremely special to us. We wish them both lots of happiness.
Describe Rhea’s outfit for us...
Rhea wore a custom Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla Mandala off-white organza circular dress paired with a box pleated organza cape with dramatic sleeves, all hand-embroidered in delicate Resham work.
For her second look, she wore an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla love skirt in off-white organza with love written in different languages in bold red resham (silk).
How much time did you get to prepare the outfit? Was it tough given the pandemic?
We had a week to bring Rhea’s dream off-white outfit to life. It took around 200 man-hours to create it. The right fabric had to be used along with delicate embroidery to make it look effortless and dreamy. Given the pandemic time restrictions, it was tough to get it done on such short notice, but with the right team in place and one fitting later, we managed to pull it off.
She wore ivory for the wedding and beige for the reception party. What was the brief you were given?
Rhea knew--right from the first discussion--that she wanted to wear ivory and she wanted it to be dramatic. Since customisation is our forte, it’s always good to have the challenge to create something which enhances and brings out the best. Rhea is a special friend. We collaborated with her for ‘Veere Di Wedding’ too. She has set new standards in the industry with her pioneering eye for fashion and styling. It has always been a seamless aesthetic collaboration with Rhea.
How challenging is it to design something for a Bollywood bride since everyone looks up to them later on?
Every bride is very special in her own way, be it Bollywood or otherwise.
Even Rahul Vaidya and Disha Parmar's wedding look went viral. Any thoughts on that?
It was gratifying to see the response to Rahul and Disha’s wedding look. Disha was a vision in ASAL in ravishing red ghagra from the Dancing Peacock range. The circular head dupatta in pink had stunning abla embroidery. A gathjoda with gold detailing completed the utterly romantic look. Rahul Vaidya was wearing MARD by Abu Sandeep off-white resham and gold zardozi sherwani paired with an inner kurta churidar. An absolutely regal gold safakamarbandgathjoda with gota details and custom juttis.
