'Absolutely shocking' - Newcastle fans react to opening-day defeat to West Ham

A second-half collapse led to Newcastle United suffering a disappointing opening-day 4-2 defeat to West Ham.

Callum Wilson handed the Magpies the after just five minutes, capitalising on excellent work from Allan Saint-Maximin to beat Lukasz Fabianski with a header.

Aaron Cresswell was credited with the equaliser when his low cross evaded everyone and nestled into the far corner, but Jacob Murphy restored the host's lead just before the break.

However, Newcastle collapsed after the interval and shipped three goals in 13 minutes to slump to defeat.

Said Benrahma brought the Hammers level with a header in the 53rd minute, and Tomas Soucek fired the visitors in front 10 minutes later with the rebound as Freddie Woodman denied Michail Antonio from the spot.

Antonio would get his goal just minutes later though, leading the counter-attack and drilling his effort into the far corner following Benrahma's through ball.

Newcastle failed to recover from the triple setback, and it was the Hammers who looked the most likely to score again in the remainder of the contest.

This is how Newcastle United supporters reacted to the disappointing opening-day defeat to West Ham.

'Back to the drawing period'

'Robbed with penalty decision'

'Same old'

'Positives to take'

'No urgency'

'Lack of effort'

'Absolutely shocking'

'Hold your heads up'
