'Absolutely scandalous!' Wales fans fume as Liverpool's Neco Williams sees red in France Euro 2020 warm-up clash

Wales football fans have expressed their displeasure after Neco Williams was sent off during their Euro 2020 warm-up clash with France.

Williams was given his marching orders midway through the first half after handling the ball following a header from Manchester United's Paul Pogba.

Wales keeper Danny Ward produced a superb save to deny Pogba's effort, but the bungled rebound from Karim Benzema hit Williams on the hand from close range.

Referee Luis Godinho initially gave the corner but consulted VAR, awarded a penalty then sent off the Liverpool youngster.

The fact the game is a friendly match rubbed salt into the wound, with Rob Page using the fixture as an opportunity to run the rule over his players.

Dave Edwards, on commentary duty for Sky, said: "That is absolutely ridiculous!"

Supporters were also left unimpressed.

Wales had started the game in competitive fashion but fell behind shortly after Williams' sending off thanks to Kylian Mbappe's opener.

Williams is now set to miss Saturday's final warm-up game against Albania at Cardiff City Stadium.
